Rubens50 years ago Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum had a dream about how his city should have been. This city was Dubai, and nowadays this is a over 2 millions people metropoli and the scenario for the most unbelievable architectural project in the world, starting from the Burj Khalifa, that with its 828 meters, is the highest building in the world, not to mention the Palm Islands, artificial archipelago shaped as a palm tree. German photographer Johannes Heuckeroth went there to take some portraits of this city and published a book called Dreaming of Dubai which actually has been his bachelor thesis.
(Unfortunatly, the dream of some is actually the nightmare of thousands and thousands, infact Dubai is infamous for its enslaved workforce from south Asia.)

Questa città era Dubai, ed oggi è una metropoli di oltre 2 milioni di abitanti e lo scenario per i più ambiziosi progetti di architettura di tutto il mondo. A cominciare dal Burj Khalifa, che con i suoi 828 metri, è l’edificio più alto del mondo; per non parlare delle Palm Islands, un arcipelago artificiale a forma di palma che si estende sul mare di fronte alla città. Il fotografo tedesco Johannes Heuckeroth è andato a Dubai per scattare alcuni ritratti della città, dai quali è nato il libro Dreaming of Dubai che è stato in realtà il suo progetto di laurea.w
(Sfortunatamente, quello che è un sogno di pochi è in realtà l’incubo di molti, poichè Dubai è tristemente nota anche per le condizioni ai limiti della schiavitù in cui sono ridotti gli operai del sud dell’Asia che si recano a Dubai cercando fortuna nei cantieri di queste imponenti opere)
