koikoikoi“Your rainbow panorama” is a great permanent work of art by Olafur Eliasson made for the rooftop of ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum (Denmark), and provides the visitors a unique panoramic visual experience. It’s 150 meters of circular walkway, three meters wide made in glass, a diameter of 52 meters, mounted on 3.5 meters columns. The project, as Olafur Eliasson says, inspires a rich dialogue between visual arts and architecture, but also between our inner present-and-immediate perceptions and our previous unconscious calculations of values.
“Your rainbow panorama enters into a dialogue with the existing architecture and reinforces what is assured beforehand, that is to say the view of the city. I have created a space which virtually erases the boundaries between inside and outside – where people become a little uncertain as to whether they have stepped into a work or into part of the museum. This uncertainty is important to me, as it encourages people to think and sense beyond the limits within which they are accustomed to moving”.

“Your rainbow panorama entra in un dialogo con l’architettura esistente e rafforza ciò che è assicurato in anticipo, vale a dire la vista della città. Ho creato uno spazio che praticamente cancella i confini tra interno ed esterno – dove la gente diventa un po’ incerta sul fatto di trovarsi dentro un’opera o dentro una parte del museo. Questa incertezza è importante per me, in quanto incoraggia la gente a pensare oltre i limiti entro i quali sono abituati a muoversi “.
