See below for a wonderful animated infographic on the “Land of the Rising Sun”. It was created as a final thesis project by Kenichi Tanaka, a talented 23-year-old graphic designer raised in Nagoya, Japan. He has studied both in his home country and in sunny California, which enabled him to experience a different point of view on his own culture, as it is perceived by foreigners. In his short, Kenichi wanted to point out that while his countrymen take pride in the uniqueness of their culture, it also has its downsides.

Cedomir Pakusevskij born in Novi-Sad (Serbia), but living in Italy, is a very talented motion designer. He works mainly for Mtv, realizing very spectacular channel bumpers.

He says about himself:”I’m some sort of creature based in Milano, working at World Design Studio MTV as Art Director. I also make some sounds under the alias SkengChan. I believe that best design should grow on the message. Style should not be the limit of communication, but a tool for creating synesthetic impressions. Thereby I love Motion Design. It’s made of time, space and sound, and opens so many paths that are still to be explored.”

Rob Chiu – The Ronin

It was a while I was wondering a post on one of my favourite motion designer, so let me introduce Rob Chiu. English motion designer, director and photographer, in 2000 he founded “The Ronin”, motion design studio. Since then he’s reputation has grown and now he’s considered one of the most expert in motion graphic world wide, with a very unique style.

He studied graphic design at Manchester Metropolitan, but his motion skills are self-taught. His designing process depends on the project his working on, but the music/audio aspect is decisive for him. Rob prefers to start by an audio input to visualize images and animations in his mind.

More recently he became creative director for Beyond Magazine and writer for BD4D, plus speaker for MMU School of Design in Manchester.

Videotape (Reel 09)

Black Day To Freedom one of his favourite projects, it’s a short movie about refugess, enclosed to a book with various interpretation of the theme from illustrators and designers around the world. The project has been presented at ICA of London in May 2005, since then it’s been showed in a lot of movie festivals wordlwide.

Serial Cut Studio is a creative agency based in Madrid, born in 1999 by Sergio del Puerto. The portfolio goes from photography to typography, 3D rendering and graphic design or motion graphic. They work with both big or small companies, focusing on fashion and entertainment.

Their web portfolio has a great impact: fullscreen images with horizontal and vertical scrolling, with scalable images that don’t lose quality.
