Wataru Yoshida is a japanese artist born in Tokyo, Japan in 1987.
In 2007, Wataru chose to pursue an education in design at the Tama Art University, majoring in graphic design and illustration.

Michiriro Matsuoka’s sculptures

Michihiro Matsuoka was born in 1969 in Japan. He defines his work as a “creation of objects” that expresses the passing of time. Working with industrial resin clay, acrylic and other suitable materials, Matsouka fuses machinery with animals creating fantastic sculptures. He finds inspiration in his childhood memories and deteriorated devices, that’s why his meticulous work, in order to express the progression of time, gains such a surrealistic manner.

Matsuoka’s current exhibition is at Artishox, Belgium, until November 27, 2011.

Porcelain skulls by Katsuyo Aoki

Katsuyo Aoki is a japanese sculptor born in Tokyo (1972) that use porcelain to create her series of skull shaped works, called Predictive dream. ”The decorative styles, patterns and symbolic forms I allude to and incorporate in my works each contain a story based on historical backgrounds and ideas, myths, and allegories. Their existence in the present age makes us feel many things,; adoration, some sort of romantic emotions, a sense of unfruitfulness and languor from their excessiveness and vulgarity.”

Poplar Library by Sako Architects

Sako Architects realized this amazing project for Poplar Library, a bookstore specific for children, in Beijing. Main features of the projects are 2 rainbow colored ribbons floating around the 2 floors inviting children to discover the shop world made of spaces and holes to explore. Holes in the bookshelves can be passages for other rooms or little lairs to enjoy a book.

Naoto Hattori. Japanese pop surrealism.

“I’ve been creating the imaginary world within my mind ever since I was a child. My vision is like a dream, where it’s a sweet dream, a nightmare or just a bizarre dream.” Hattori says. Born in Yokohama at 1975, he studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York. His paintings could be mistaken with digital art, but he does a spectacular work with acrylic. A fantastic and prolific imaginary is what we found in his gallery, as he says fruit of a “practice to increase awareness in stream-of-conscious creativity”. And here are some samples.

His work is currently been exhibited on “Les Enfants Terribles”, with Robert Crumb, Ray Caesar, and many others, from September 15 to December 31, 2011, at l’Hôtel de Région Rhône Alpes, Lyon, France.

Wooden Bicycles by Sueshiro Sano

Sueshiro Sano is a wooden ship builder, third son and 8th generation of a 200 years long story of a ship builders family based in Botan, near Tokyo. Born in 1958 he has been engaged in the construction of wooden ships since the age of thirteen, and established rare skill and technique for which WOODEN BOAT MAGAZINE of the USA awarded him with the appellation SANO MAGIC. In recent years he decided to start using this amazing skill on a very different vehicle: bicyles. I don’t call this design and crafts neither, I call this art.

Sushi Trucks by Paramodel

Paramodel is an “art unit” formed in 2001 by Yasuhiko Hayashi and Yusuke Nakano. Their title comes from the combination of the words, “Paradise” and “model”, and the fusion of these two concepts is essentially the launching point of their creations. They recently created an amazing serie of small trucks transporting Japanese food.

Yoko D’Holbachie psychedelic kawaii art

Yoko D’Holbachie is a Japanese painter, born in Yokohama and working in Tokyo. Her art is a perfect mix of western pop surrealism and “traditional” kawaii characters, in a psychedelic palette of colors.

In her creatures you can feel the inspiration coming from one of her favourite artists: Jim Woodring, from a japanese point of view.
