Banksy is an England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter. His eye-opening street art combines irreverent dark humour with graffiti done in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. Most people say graffiti is ugly, disruptive, pointless, irresponsible, and childish. All of those allegations are flushed down the toilet, when it’s done properly.

EL MAC presents us one of his latest murals, Spirit of Summer in Montreal. El Mac say: “Montreal is one of my favorite cities, and it seems to hold a unique creative energy. I also know how cold, drab and grey it can get there when it isn’t summer, so I almost felt a sense of obligation to paint this with more color than usual. In addition, this is kind of an interpretation of a young Rose Phillips, the namesake of the neighborhood this is in, “Rosemont.”

“Tumblingerstraße” is a stop motion short film by an unknown animator with the user name “Yo Man” at Vimeo. A perfect miniature replica of the road Tumblingerstraße in Munich of Bavaria, famous for his graffiti, is the German equivalent of 5 Pointz in New York.

Vanessa Castex alias Miss Van

Miss Van was born in 1973 in Toulouse, France and is currently based in Barcelona, Spain. She started wall-painting in the streets at the age of 18, initiating the feminine movement in street art. Her compositions are “dolls” (poupées) from the round forms and soft, as if the artist wants to deviate from the canonical current beauty. They are languid and intriguing but at the same time, angelic and the immature forms of Miss Van’s dolls are placed in an imaginary world in soft colors to make them even more enigmatic.
