Illustrators Skwak and Aya Kato release themes for iPhone app, Mr. Chiizu

Illustrators Skwak and Aya Kato have released themes for innovative photo decoration app, Mr. Chiizu.

Aya Kato is a Japanese illustrator who is a master at weaving traditional hand-drawn illustration with digital graphics. Aya’s influences include art nouveau, manga, ukiyoe wood block prints and baroque art.  The 25-year-old artist’s designs can be seen in a recent Shu Uemura campaign and the music video for Tori Amos’ Sleeps with Butterflies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeps_with_Butterflies. She has exhibited with Scion and Rojo internationally and her designs have been featured in magazines around the world.

French artist Skwak is perhaps best known for his signature art style: wild characters in densely packed pieces exploding with color and detail.  He recently created a television campaign for Wienerschnitzel and his fine art has been featured in numerous shows, including the Archive show at the Scion gallery in Los Angeles.  His pack for Mr. Chiizu reflects his vision of a maniacal world.

Since launching in the early fall of 2011 Mr. Chiizu has shot up the iTunes charts across Asia, instantly becoming one of the most popular photo decoration apps on the App Store. What makes Mr. Chiizu unique is that it is not only a photo decoration app, but a platform for artists and designers to sell their work in the form of add-on themes. Unlike any other photo decoration app, we add new releases to our library monthly. Now everyone can own a piece by their favorite artist for just 99 cents. (http://get.mrchiizu.com)

On December 13th we are launching a contest on http://beautifuldecay.com : the best photo decorated with Aya Kato’s theme and the best photo decorated with Skwak’s theme will each receive a grand prize featuring a poster, t-shirt and art book. The contest will run for the rest of December with a winner announced at the start of the new year.
