koikoikoiSueshiro Sano is a wooden ship builder, third son and 8th generation of a 200 years long story of a ship builders family based in Botan, near Tokyo. Born in 1958 he has been engaged in the construction of wooden ships since the age of thirteen, and established rare skill and technique for which WOODEN BOAT MAGAZINE of the USA awarded him with the appellation SANO MAGIC. In recent years he decided to start using this amazing skill on a very different vehicle: bicyles. I don’t call this design and crafts neither, I call this art.
Sueshiro Sano è un costruttore di imbarcazioni in legno, terzo figlio e componente dell’ottava generazione di una famiglia con una storia lunga 200 anni nel campo della nautica. Nato nel 1958 a Botan, vicino Tokyo, ha cominciato ad apprendere il mestiere del padre a 13 anni e subito ha sviluppato capacità e tecniche talmente eccezionali da meritarsi il soprannome di “Sano Magic” dalla rivista statunitense WOODEN BOAT MAGAZINE. In anni recenti ha deciso di iniziare ad utilizzare queste sue straordinarie doti per costruire veicoli decisamente diversi dalle imbarcazioni, ovvero biciclette. Personalmente questo non lo chiamo design e neanche artigianato, la chiamo arte.
