Is open the ninth edition of Amal Festival 2011, EuroArab Filmfestival, in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), from 24 to October 29. The slogan “Bread, Film, and Liberty”, puts the festival into the context of the events of the “Arab spring” and shows the role of the independent film as an accurate means of communication, able to reach deeply into the heart of these revolutions. The documentary Leave. Tahir Square’s Diary by Marc Almodóvar opens the festival.
One of the main objectives of the festival is to outline the vast parallelism and closeness between our cultures, contrary of the mainstream media common opinion and the political interests’ view. Will be screened 28 films from different genres and forms (documentary, fiction, short movies, animation and videoart), including a film series for children and a short movie creation contest, the Amal Express. The city will also feature various activities and workshops related to Arab culture, such as gastronomy courses, Arab dance, handwriting, and a poster exhibition. See the festival program here.
