I Do Haiku You - Toy camera and poetry

I have an ongoing project called I Do Haiku You in which I pair medium format toy camera photography with haiku and senryu poems. Haiku poetry, like photography, has an instant, strong, fairly emotional resonance. I find the haiku and photographs enhance each others power so that, very briefly, a story is told.

My photographs come from India, Egypt, the U.S. and elsewhere, including Kyoto, Japan, where I now live. I am a Los Angeles native.

I’ve enclosed one haiku with image as a sample of my work:

I Do Haiku You Toy camera and poetry

Lost and Found

the meaning of life
you think you got it, then it
slips away again

I Do Haiku You Toy camera and poetry

Chattering Optimism

“peace,” you and i say–
though some call it a lost cause,
talking out loud helps
I Do Haiku You Toy camera and poetry
These things taken, granted
praise has been heaped on
the visions of street poets but
such little coinage
I Do Haiku You Toy camera and poetry
Peace talks
the trouble with war,
besides the mass casualties
is our stolen youth
I Do Haiku You Toy camera and poetry
Unanswered letters to God
weighting dreams with time–
withstanding their whittling,
wondering, why me?
