On graduating from the Fine Art BA Hons at University College Falmouth in 2000, my work was initially very much about highly repetitive techniques and algorithmic procedures applied to restricted units such as lines on a page or pieces of metal.

Stacks of staples were broken into varying sizes from full stacks about 12cm high down to single staples. These stacks were then stood up and arranged over a period of 40 hours.

Low-Rise

Staples and mirror

Low-Rise is a precarious assemblage of thousands of free-standing stacks of staples densely tessellated to create a city-like mosaic. Like a city, the staples are subject to the elements, on a micro scale. The slightest breath or vibration and the domino effect kicks in.
