Working out of studios in Brooklyn and Buffalo, New York, Michael Mararian creates paintings that merge the contradictory themes of innocent childhood with violent social and psychological imagery. Mararian places his wide-eyed cherubic children in scary adult situations. Mararian aims to highlight the absurdity of these scenes and to jolt a reaction from the viewer. He definitely succeeds, there is something about these extreme vibrant images that is disturbing and strangely mesmerizing.
