Yuken Teruya manipulates daily life objects changing their meaning. He cuts out trees from a paper bag or a cardboard pipe, he creates really tangled artworks, beautiful enchanting worlds.
From every bag the shape of the tree is created without adding or removing material, just cutting and bending the paper. Teruya’s artworks explore theme like the growing consumerism of odiern society, the exhaustion of natural resources and other problems related to globalization.
Born in Okinawa in 1973, he received the MFA form Visual Arts School of NY in 2001. This Fall his works will be exhibited in “Okinawa” show ate National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
